OVERVIEW:
PLEASE NOTE: The currency in Bulgaria is the Lev (I will refer to them as B$s). At the time of writing, US$1 = B$1.74.
We have just spent 1 week in Sunny Beach on the Black Sea Coast of Bulgaria.
We had a small ‘taste’ of Bulgarian history when we visited Nesebar which is located on the southern tip of Sunny Beach.
We are, now, in Plovdiv … the 6th oldest continually inhabited city in the World …
THE PLOVDIV CITY CARD:
You can visit the official website.
I purchased a 3 Day Card.
Online, the price is discounted down from B$36 to B$33.
COVERAGE:
Entry to most attractions averages B$5-6. The City Card saves you money because it includes free access to 10 attractions. These attractions are shown as ‘red hearts’ on the following Map:
Additional ‘red hearts’ show attractions that are free of charge anyway. The ‘blue tags’ are attractions that are not covered by the card.
PHOTO GALLERY:
THE EASTERN GATE OF PHILIPPOPOLIS:
Free. Uninspiring.
SMALL BACILICA:
Included. A small room of mosaics. You can go upstairs to watch a free video on the sites of Plovdiv.
CULTURAL CENTER TRAKART:
Included. Small. The remains of a Roman Villa with mosaic floors and trinkets.
ROMAN FORUM:
Free. Unimpressive.
GARDEN OF TSAR SIMEON / SINGING FOUNTAINS:
Free. Large central park.
ANCIENT STADIUM OF PHILIPPOPOLIS:
Free.
ANCIENT THEATRE OF PHILIPPOPOLIS:
Included. Still used for live performances.
REGIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM:
Included. No photos allowed inside. A big house with displays in many rooms. Farm equipment, traditional clothes, and old furnishings.
SAINT KONSTANTIN & ELENA CHURCH:
Included. Orthodox Church.
NEBET TEPE:
Free. One of the original settlements dating back to about 5000 BC. Later converted to a Roman Fortress. Views over Plovdiv. A great place for sunset. 
HISTORY MUSEUM:
Included. A militaristic with a focus on Bulgarian Independence. B$11 Entrance Fee without the City Card.
HOUSE MUSEUM HINDLIYAN:
Included. A ‘period’ house with some nice murals.
HOUSE MUSEUM ZLATYU BOYADJIEV:
Included. Artworks.
CONCLUSION:
I wasn’t overly impressed by some of the House Museums but, having said that, the City Card is definitely worth the price as long as you actually want to visit at least 5 of the places included.
If you start early, you can easily buy the cheaper B$24 City Card and do all of the best sites in 1 day.
